Hosting

This website is hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany. The servers are located in Germany. When you visit the site, Hetzner automatically processes connection data (see “Server log files” below) on my behalf as a processor under a data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR). The legal basis is my legitimate interest in the secure and efficient provision of this website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Server log files

The provider of these pages automatically collects and stores information in so-called server log files, which your browser automatically transmits. These are:

  • Requested page on the domain
  • Date and time of the server request
  • Browser type and version
  • Operating system used
  • Referrer URL
  • Host name of the accessing device
  • IP address

This data is not merged with other data sources. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; the legitimate interest lies in the secure operation, stability and abuse prevention of the website. Log files are stored for a maximum of 14 days and then deleted automatically.

TLS encryption

For security reasons and to protect the transmission of confidential content, this website uses TLS encryption. You can recognize an encrypted connection by the “https://” prefix in your browser’s address line and the lock symbol.

Cookies and local storage

This website does not use cookies and does not use any tracking or analytics. Your selected color theme (light/dark) is stored locally in your browser’s local storage so the site remembers your choice. This storage is strictly necessary to provide a function you explicitly requested and is therefore exempt from consent under § 25 Abs. 2 TDDDG; no personal data is transmitted to me in the process.

YouTube videos

Some posts embed videos from YouTube, a service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. The videos are embedded in the extended data-protection mode (“youtube-nocookie”), so YouTube does not store cookies on your device until you start playing a video. However, when you open a post that contains a video, your IP address is transmitted to YouTube so the player can load, and a transfer to Google servers, including in the USA, may take place. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in presenting video content in an appealing way (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). I have no influence over this data processing. Diagrams (Mermaid)

Some posts render diagrams using the Mermaid JavaScript library. This library is not loaded from an external CDN at runtime: it is fetched once during the build of the website and is then served directly from this website’s own server (see “Hosting”). When you view a post containing a diagram, no data is transmitted to any third party for this purpose; only the usual connection to this website’s host (Hetzner) takes place.

RSS feed

This website offers an RSS feed. Retrieving the feed transmits the same connection data as any other page request (see “Server log files”). No additional personal data is processed.

Your rights

Within the framework of the applicable legal provisions, you have the right to:

  • Information about your stored personal data, their origin and recipients, and the purpose of processing (Art. 15 GDPR)
  • Correction of inaccurate data (Art. 16 GDPR)
  • Deletion (Art. 17 GDPR) and restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
  • Data portability in a machine-readable format (Art. 20 GDPR)
  • Objection to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21 GDPR)
  • Withdrawal of consent at any time, with effect for the future
